It was the Upperstate Duals Finals and Coach had moved me up a weight class. I was already a small 171 wrestler so at 189 I was no where near the size of the other guy. So my opponite was bigger, stronger, and just as fast, but I didn't care. I knew that he thought his strength and size would be the factor that would win it for him, but I also knew his conditioning was not good and that he could not last six minutes on the mat. So I came up with a risky game plan, but it was the only way. When it was my turn to wrestle I step out on the mat with the song "I'm Shippin Up to Boston," playing. The ref. asks if we are ready and then he starts the match.
The first minute of the first period we are standing and hand fighting. He finally trys for a shot and get a takedown. He scores first making it 2-0. I stay on bottom because that will make him have to work harder to turn me and score again. He works hard for a long time to turn me, but I'm strong on bottom. He then lets me up and then before I can react he shots again. The score is now 4-1. That period ends and it was his choose if he wanted top, bottom, nutraul, or deffer. He choose to go nutraul because he had been taking me down very easily.
The second period starts and we hand fight for a little while then I decide to kick it up a some so I shot and then I score the takedown. He then goes for a reversal and gets it. The score is now 6-3. By this time he is very tired and I notice it and escape (score 6-4). I then start to push the pace and he becomes slower and slower. Before the period ended he calls for ingury time just to take a breath and throw-up.
In the third period it was my time to shine. So I started on bottom and as soon as the whistle is blown I escape making the score 6-5. I then start to push the pace even more and I don't stop I get a takedown, score is now 6-7, me. I then turn him and score another three pionts. I'm ahead with fifteen seconds left. The crowd is going insane, you could hear them three blocks away. Everyone is standing, no one can believe what they just saw. A kid that weighed 168 had just beaten a 189 pound man. When the whistle was blown there was no one that stayed quite everyone was screaming with the final score at 7-10 in favor of me.

Little Wittle
There is a little waterfall right on the edge of Camp McCall that is apporpially named Little Waterfall. Not many historians will know this, but there was a great battle that took place there. It is called the battle of Little Waterfall, and there is one hero that stands out.
First I must say that, that waterfall has not always been there. It was just a regular creek and it was one McCall indian's favorite place to sit and wittle on his sticks. His name was Little Wittle. He would sit there almost day and night wittling.
He did this for years. It was very up around that area but out side of the McCall idian's land the Revaltionary War was happening. As the war went on the battles were getting closer to the camp. The indians were a nuetral party in the war, but the British cought wind that they were aiding the Americans. So the British planned an attack on the McCall Tribe.
They decided to sneak all the way up there through the creek. the very creek Little Wittle liked the wittle at. He saw them coming from a distance and he knew they were coming to attack camp. He knew there was not enough time to run and tell the others of the British so he decided to stay and fight.
Little Wittle was not warrior, but he had this grand idea. there was a big rock that sat on the side of the hill next to the creek. So he decided to wittle an entire tree so it would hit the rock, block the British path and it would be loud enough for the warriors to hear it and come running.
So he got to work. He worked as fast as he could and did not stop. When the British got within a hundred yards Little Wittle finished wittling the tree and and it fell hitting the rock and the rock tumbled and landed right in the way of the British stopping them dead in their tracks. And like Little Wittle planned the noise was so great that the warriors of the McCall Indians came down to the creek and defeated the British and that is ultimately the way the Americans won the war.
In conclusion the rock that stopped the British from advancing also stopped the water and that is where the waterfall came from.

Fall of Cobra
A long time ago there was two oppossing forces. one for good the other for evil. They went by the names G.I. Joes and Cobra. The G.I Joes were the good guys. They always fought for good. As you can guess the Cobras were the bad guys. They hated the Joes and everything they stood for.
The Cobras had a base that is located in the mountains near Camp McCall. They controlled that entire region. With the location of the base no one could get near them, and if they could, they could not get into the base. After they had caused enough damage the U.S government called in the Joes because they were the only ones that could take care of the Cobras.
Early in May the Joes deviced a plan that would envolve a lot of trenches and would have to take place in the dead of night. When they decided to finally attack they hit the Cobras before they could even get dressed. But the fortess was strong and for nine days they fought. Without sleep they fought and neither side backed down.
Finally one of the Joes by the name of Snack Eyes found the one weak spot in the fortess and had the entire Joe's force focus on that one spot. The Joes finally broke through and defeated the Cobras and took control. Now if you are to go to the spot where the battle took place all you would find is an old fallen over, once great fortess.

River Trip
It started out like every other day. But today was just a little difference. Today was the day that we were going on our river trip. We were not going down the biggest of rivers, it was just the Enroee River in Woodruff.
It had rained a few days before so the timing was perfect. My older brother Cole, his friend Alex, and myself loaded up our kayaks and the rest of our gear and headed out around lunch time. We had to take two cars, one as the pick up vichicle and the other as the drop off vichicle.
Both of the cars were parked on other people's properties and walked our boats to the river. When we reached the river we saw that there was at least a class three rapid. We started just a stones throw up the river from the rapid and the plan was right before we went down it we would pull over to the side and scout it out.
My brother and his friend went first. They some how before the rapid pull off and were waiting on me. I was not so lucky. I did not have enough power to land my boat, so I decided to go for the rapid. About ten feet out my brother told me to get out of there. So I listened to my brother and exited the boat. the water was only knee deep so i had no problem standing. So when I got up I looked over and saw a big rock that my boat had not only got stuck on, but with the force of the water had rapped all the way around the rock.
If I had stayed in the boat I could have easily drownd with all the water that was pounding on the rock. I was lucky that brother could see the rock and told me to get out of there.
We did end up getting the boat out with no serious damage and continued our trip. The rest of the trip was a success.

Passage in Doctor Zhivago Written by Boris Pasternak
Now what is history? It is the centuries of systematic explorations of the riddle of death, with a view to overcoming death. That's why people discover mathematical infinity and electromagnetic waves, that's why the qrithsymphonies. Now you can't advance in this direction without a certain faith. You can't make such discoveries without spiritual equipment. And the basic elements if this equipment are in the Gospels. What is the supreme form of vital energy. Once it fills the heart of man it has to overflow and spend itself. And then the two basic ideals of modern man- without them he is unthinkable-the idea of free personality and the idea of life as sacrifice.
The Escaped Part II
Years went by and no one had even the slitest idea where Shane had gone to. There were a few leads here and there, but no concrete evidience. But then one day new evidience come up that lead authorities to a small town in Southern New Mexico. When they got there they asked the local authorities if they had seen a man by Shane's discription. The local cops began to look confused. Then one of them stood up and said, "I know a man by that discription, but he's out fishing with the sheriff right now."
It turned out that Shane, the escaped convict, had changed his name to John and had become best friends with the local sheriff. Every morning they went out and ate brakefast together, and they went fishing almost everyday. When asked why he did not try and stay as far away as possible from the law he simply replid, "Sometimes to best hidding place is right in front of the one looking."

The Escaped
Their once was a guy by the name of Shane. He was arrested for assolt. He was sent to an Arizona prison. In his time there he became the prison's electrion, and was given a truck to drive in and out of the prison so he could do his job. One day he decided that he didn't like it there to much, so one day he drove out the gate like he had done many times before, but this time he kept driving. He drove until the limited amount of gas he had ran out. He did not let that stop him, he walked even further into the desert until his girlfriend met him out there with a car. They drove on, and where never seen again.

HWVFD ( Hillcrest Wrestling Volunteer Fire Dept.)
On the day of Jan. 2 2008, a nice game of paintball between the Hillcrest Wrestling Team quickly turned ugly when an open field caught fire becuase of a fire work (Roman Candle) that was set off by one of the wrestlers. The few wrestlers that were sittin the particular game of paintball out, quickly acted on the fire trying to put it out.
It appeared to be under control until a big gust of wind spread it. Seeing the severity of the situation they jumped in all the cars that were parked and found the keys and moved the cars before they all exploded. A fellow wrestler saw the fire creeping up under the cars, and knowing that the car could blow up at any moment ran like there was no tomorrw, in the other direction. At that moment the rest of the wrestlers came flying out of the woods. They began to stomp out the flames like crazy. They also found that smacking the flames with their sweatshirts was an effective way of puttin the fire out. Meanwhile the coach looked on laughing at his wrestlers frantically trying to put out the fire. Another fellow wrestler, by the name of Wes Younts tried a unique way of putting out the fire, shooting it with a paintball gun. Seeing right away that, that didnt work he went back to laughing at everybody else.
The fire was eventually brought under control. No one was hurt and everyone survived. This blog is for all those brave men who risked their lives to put out the fire, and for all who admire and support them.

The Bear
Once there was a christain camp, and for over fifty years every Thursday night they had a decision service for all the kids. There is a story about one perticular Thursday night. A night that no expected to happen. The night the bear came into camp.
At the end of the decision night two or three staffers will leave early, and place candles along the road so the kids can see where they are going. One of the three's name that night was Mayco, and when they finished putting the candles out they waited for everyone else to come down the mountain, when Mayco happened to notice that all the trash cans had been torn to peaces.
Amditly they knew there was a bear in the camp. When they saw this, they heard all the campers, and other staffers coming down the mountain. As quit as they could they rushed to stop everyone from coming down. They got there just in time, and told the campers to stop, and wait. When some of the other staffers got there they asked what was goin on. When they told them there was a bear, and together they all got a plan together.
The plan was that seven staffers would go before everyone else and make sure the bear was gone. Those who volinteered were scared out of there minds. They had no more than a few pocket knives and flash lights. They also had a radio. As they marched into the darkness they knew they were entering into the bears domain.
As they reached the Activity building, and the canteen they had to split up. They were all making noise hoping the bear would run off if it heard them. When they reached the dining hall the group that stayed on the main road saw the bear no more than ten feet away from them. Without knowing what else to do they all screamed in fear. The bear turned, and ran away from them. the other group heard them, and ran to see what was going on. When they reached the place they heard the screaming, no one was there. They came to find out they had all run and hide in the dining hall.
The second group convicied the first that they all needed to make sure the bear was for sure gone. After they were sure the bear was gone they radioed the other staffers that they kids were safe and could continue to their cabins. This is the story of the brave seven staffers that put there lives on the line for the kids they were intrusted to take care of for that one week of camp. That is a week those seven staffers will never forget.

The Battle of the Ball Field
This is a true fictional story that we tell at McCall.
Back during the end of the Civil War there was a great battle that not many historians know about. It take place in the mountains of South Carolina, and to be more spacific it was on what is now the ball field of Camp McCall. The southern troops had occupied this field because there was a major northern trade route that passes through it. General Nathan Bedford Forrest, and his men set camp there, and kept the union army from getting war supplies, and other nessacisary supplies. They were very successful.
One of the things that made the General so successful was the face that he befriended the chief of the McCall indians. The chief's name was Chief Agum Bugum, and him and Forrest had an agreement that at night the chief's worriors would watch the camp, and make sure no one could come up and surprise them in the dead of night. The other half of the aggreement was that Chiefs warriors did not have to fight, just simply warn them.
Over a period of time the Chief and the General became very good friends, and they would spend many afternoons together sharing stories of back when. As time went on the northern army devised an attack plan, off of a spy they had, to get there trade route back. The attack was to take place at night on Apirl 17, 1864. The union troops tried the sneak up on confederates, and one of Chief warriors saw them, and warned the general.
As the battle began the McCall indians stepped back and watched as it went on. The battle went on for two days. On the second day the brave General was wounded, and it appeared the confederates were going to lose. When the Chief saw his good friend go down he could not stand it any longer. Chief gathered his man and joined in on the battle. When they joined in it scared the union troops and many of them fled, and those that did not simply gave up. This battle was the turning point of the war and was ultimitly the reason the south won the war.
